The DAAD Centre for International Academic Collaborations (KIWi) invites HEI representatives from Germany and the Republic of Korea interested in ‘Green Energy’ to set up links and exchange ideas on suitable areas of cooperation.

This online event is hosted by KIWi in cooperation with  DAAD Information Centre Seoul and the DAAD ERA Fellowships - Green Hydrogen Programme. It will be conducted over two days with an introductory note and experts’ discussion as well as opportunity for matchmaking on day one and a Horizon Europe overview and consecutive matchmaking sessions on day two. The event aims at connecting well established researchers with counterparts as well as young scholars with advisors or short-term research stay hosts.

Korean and German HEI are cooperating successfully in currently over 600 partnerships on a wide spectrum of subject areas and research topics.

Scientific cooperation can be expected to intensify further, with STEM subjects being a mutual interest of scientific collaboration between the two countries. Cooperation in STEM areas in particular helps to solve problems of overlapping global and regional relevance, making cooperation in these fields particularly long-standing and sustainable.

This KIWi Connect takes a closer look at the field of green energy and at the well-established energy partnership between the two countries. It aims to intensify the dialogue especially between young scientists.

Furthermore, the event will look at the recent association of the Republic of Korea to the Horizon Europe programme and the opportunities arising from this association for researchers in the field of green energy.

For the first part of the event, experts from both countries will give an overview of current activities relating to the green energy sector. For Germany as well as for Korea, the policy background to foster green energy and related funding and networking opportunities will be highlighted.

The main part of the event will showcase potential partner institutions from both countries and give them a platform to discuss collaboration opportunities. Topics covered will include joint research, curricula development and integration of practical training into study programmes. In addition, PhD students and postdocs from both countries will have the chance to get to know potential advisors and hosts for short-term research stays and for enlarging their international network.

Questions that could be discussed during this event and will facilitate a first exchange and getting to know each other are:

  • What further potential is there for Korean-German cooperation in the green energy sector? What forms of cooperation currently exist and where can cooperation be expanded?

  • What type of exchange and collaboration are participants looking for?

  • What experiences have partners gained in previous international (research) collaborations? What are good practice examples of joint endeavors?

  • What funding opportunities are available?

  • How can both countries foster young scientists in the field of green energy and their international networks?

  • How can academic education and practical training be integrated in academic education in the field of (green) energy?

Participants

Representatives of universities and research institutions (including directors, researchers, science managers, PhD students and postdocs, international offices, research departments, and transfer offices) from Germany and the Republic of Korea active in the field of green energy.
